Which Amiga should you chose

In 2022 I wanted to buy Amiga 1200. The reason was simple. That's the unit I drooled over at my friends place when I only owned a model 500 plus. However, not everyone is ready to pay for the premium machine so I did a research on pros and cons of getting a cheaper one.

Let's put our options on the table first. Naturally, you are after the wedge design Amiga so I will list them below with a couple of fact for every one of them:

  • Amiga 500
    Year: 1987
    CPU: Motorola 68000 - 7 MHz
    Chip Memory: 512KB
Chipset: OCS (ECS in the late models)
    Keyboard: Full size

  • Amiga 500 Plus
    Year: 1991
    CPU: Motorola 68000 - 7 MHz
    Chip Memory: 1MB
    Chipset ECS
    Keyboard: Full size

  • Amiga 600
    Year: 1992
    CPU: Motorola 68000 - 7 MHz
    Chip Memory: 1MB
    Chipset: ECS
    Keyboard: Tenkeyless

  • Amiga 1200
    Year: 1992
    CPU: Motorola 68020 - 14MHz
    Chip Memory: 2MB
    Chipset: AGA
    Keyboard: Full size

The main diferentiator is the graphics chip. Most games are designed for OCS
